Annual Katherine Multicultural Festival

The United Muslims of Northern Territory (UMNT) have once again illuminated the vibrant community of Katherine with their annual visit from Darwin and hosting of the Katherine Multicultural Festival.

This cherished event, part of the Nisaa Project, has grown in unity, celebrating diversity and fostering deep connections year after year. With each visit, the bonds between people strengthen, and the spirit of togetherness blossoms ever brighter.

Friday: A day of reflection, unity, and spiritual  growth

The weekend began on a serene and uplifting note. On Friday, community members gathered to attend a profound session led by Imam Mohanad. His inspiring words resonated deeply, encouraging reflection, spiritual growth, and a renewed commitment to faith and community.

Prayers and shared meals added a layer of warmth and kinship, making everyone feel embraced and valued. The day’s atmosphere was one of hope, purpose, and a sense of belonging- a perfect start to a meaningful weekend.

Saturday: A joyful celebration at the Katherine Multicultural Festival

Saturday’s Katherine Multicultural Festival was nothing short of magical. Hosted by UMNT, this annual celebration brought together people from all walks of life to honour the beauty of diversity and shared values.

  • Children’s Activities: Children laughed and played joyfully in games organized by Youth Coordinator Hajrah Kamran. Their faces lit up with excitement as they performed heartfelt nasheed and gave engaging presentations about the interesting facts and female role-models in the Quran, inspiring everyone with their enthusiasm and knowledge.

  • Engaging Adults: Adults were drawn into enriching Islamic talk led by Ustadah Madeeha. Her thought-provoking discussions offered wisdom, sparking meaningful conversations and encouraging deeper understanding of faith and community values. This session was a continuation of the UMNT fortnightly UMNT Ilm circle series named the ‘Glimpses from the Seerah Series: Lessons from the Greatest man to have lived.’

A tradition that inspires and unites

What began as an initiative to promote inclusion has evolved into an inspiring tradition that radiates love, compassion, and the unbreakable power of community.

The Katherine visit and Multicultural Festival have become an annual celebration eagerly anticipated by both the UMNT and the Katherine community.

This year’s festival was a vivid testament to the transformative power of unity. From the children’s laughter to the adults’ heartfelt discussions, every moment reflected the beauty of a community working together to create something extraordinary. It is a reminder of the limitless potential of what we can achieve as a Muslim community.

Looking Ahead: Continuing the legacy of togetherness

As the festival continues to grow, so does its impact on the hearts and minds of those who attend. The United Muslims of Northern Territory are dedicated to carrying this legacy forward, enriching lives and building bridges of understanding.
